Our Mission Today Mississippi has more African American elected officials than any other state in the union, and boasts a fifty member Legislative Black Caucus. It is this new context that One Voice sets its agenda for the future. We enhance civic engagement in the formation of public policy through non-partisan leadership development, research support, training, and technical assistance for advocacy groups and community based organizations with the purpose of improving the quality of life for African Americans and other disenfranchised communities. Our Principles Building Community Awareness & Empowerment Building Community Power is about empowering the community by organizing civic institutions, raising awareness to its constituents, participating in community or statewide coalitions and supporting local organizations by providing an array of institutional supports, such as acting as a fiscal agent for local startup non-profits. Building Community Leadership The Leadership component of One Voice’s program develops the capacity of power and progressive community leadership. At One Voice we seek to create opportunities to assist local and state elected officials and non-profit leaders with best practices through training, technical support and leadership development.
